SSC CGL 2014- Pattern, Strategy for preparation, Study Material & recommended books

This article contains the details of Strategy for preparation of SSC CGL-2014 & list of recommended books & free study material.

Details about the Pattern of Examination

SSC-CGL exam consists of three stages:

  1. Tier-I (Objective type Paper)
  2. Tier-II (Again Objective type paper)
  3. Tier-III (Interview/CPT/DEST)

Tier-I

Tier-I paper of SSC-CGL will consist of 4 sections namely:

General Intelligence + Reasoning
50 marks
General Awareness
50 marks
Quantitative Aptitude
50 marks
English Comprehension
50 marks
  • Total Marks: 200    Duration- 2 hrs
  • Number of question: 200
  • Note: There will be a negative marking of 0.25 marks for every wrong answer.

Tier-II

After qualifying Tier-I, the second stage tier-II paper consists of 2 Papers namely:

  • Total: 400 marks
  • There will be an additional paper-3 (200 marks) of Statistics for ONLY those who have applied for the post of Statistical investigator.

After qualifying in tier-II, there will be tier-III in which following is going to happen:

So, in total:
  • For interview post (other that stats investigator): 700 marks
  • For non-interview post: 600 marks
  • For statistical investigator post: 900 marks
Note: CPT/DEPT are just for checking your skills.

Syllabus of Tier-I & Tier-II

Coming to the main point i.e. syllabus of the exam that is given in the notification, I am not going to just copy paste it here. Refer to page 15 (Tier-I) & page 18 (Tier-II) for syllabus printed in the notification.

    i am B.tech graduate and want to apper in Assistance in Indian railway or in Income tax Inspector.
    so please tale me which exam i selected tier 1 or tier 2.

    1. You have to clear all the 3 tiers of SSC-CGL to get these posts.Read the SSC-CGL notification once again.
